Picasso Dance — “NOT waiting”
Zimbabwean choreographer nora chipaumire and French-Senegalese dancer Germaine Acogny re-approach Picasso’s landmark Les Demoiselles d’Avignon by grounding it in African cultural and artistic contexts. Through minimal choreography set against the landscape near Dakar, the short film connects movement, earth, wind, and human breath, questioning how Picasso’s legacy can be revisited and reinterpreted through contemporary dance. The project is part of Picasso Dance, a series commissioning eight choreographers to engage Picasso’s artistic heritage through performance, visual art, and creative cinema — produced for the international Célébration Picasso 1973-2023 commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death.
